As a second-generation officer in the Marine Corps, I was taught to be honest (but tactful) and always faithful (loyal to my team, my company/unit, and my country). Throughout my IT career, I have questioned the status quo to help organizations move forward with new technology, collaborated with key stakeholders to ensure new systems fulfilled business requirements, and always allowed my employees to pursue their dreams - even if that meant that they would be leaving my team. I always have tried to surround myself with the best people, but I always tried to help them move forward in their careers. Many would think that because of my background in the Marine Corps, that I would be an authoritarian leader. Quite the opposite - I lead through collaboration, honesty, integrity, and respect for others. In the rapidly changing world of IT, and of government, communication and collaboration are the keys to getting things done.
