1) Is Competent ... See Bio.
2) Is Honest... to a fault. Not afraid to say what he thinks.
3) Is Respectful ... Always learning.
4) Has Integrity ... While serving as school board President a $300,000 state check never got deposited. When Charles stated he was going to look into it, the Superintendent resigned on the spot. The money was never found.
5) Has Courage ... one of my favorite stories was when my dad took on the Superintendent of DOT while they were working on replacing the state highway that ran between our house and barn. DOT bought fill from our land, and dumped the boulders on the corn crop. That night, after they parked their equipment and went home, Dad took the boulders and lined them up across the road so they couldn't get to their equipment!
6) Has a Proven Record... 2014 – Awarded Master Agriculturist of the Year, Wisconsin 2014
“The Master Agriculturist program is one of the longest-running career-achievement honors programs in American agriculture, dating back 88 years to 1930 when the Wisconsin Agriculturist started honoring top Wisconsin farmers for their hard work, dedication, success in farming and exemplary leadership.
The winners are selected for their proven ability and accomplishments as progressive farmers, and for the time, effort and leadership they contribute to community, church and agricultural organizations.” Farm Progress website
One of the top reasons cited for his receipt of this high honor was due in large part to how he set up the legalities of his farm trusts.
