Agency or agencies for which nominator feels nominee is best suited:

  • Department of Health and Human Services

Organization name(s) and position(s) for which nominator feels nominee is best suited:

Policies which the nominator knows the nominee supports or in which they have expertise:

I am a board-certified pediatric hospitalist who has been in practice for over 20 years. I have worked in a community-based health clinic, as well as academic centers so I have an understanding of care delivery in various geographic and socioeconomic settings. I would like to see medicine return to true evidenced-based care that is influenced by neither partisanship nor Big Pharma.

I am very involved with the care of infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome who are born to mothers with substance use disorder. I helped create our hospital's treatment protocols and I am the co-chair of a statewide work group focused on the care of the mother-baby dyad affected by substance use disorder.

I am also a volunteer physician at a residential girls' YMCA camp in North Carolina. Over the last 16 years, I have seen the number of daily medications taken by the campers surge, fueled largely by anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications. I also see the positive impacts of being at camp, media-free and interacting face to face with others.

Nominator's thoughts on what would make this nominee a valuable member of a future Trump Unity Government

Although I grew up in Washington, DC, my family is from southwest Virginia. I have experience working with highly educated people as well as people from less resourced areas. As a member of this administration, I would rely on my ability to be an independent and nuanced thinker to critically evaluate health policies so that we can serve the largest number of people with the maximum impact.

    1) Competent - I have over 20 years experience as a pediatrician and have led several quality improvement projects in an effort to provide the best care possible to our patients.

    2) Respectful - I believe that our freedom of speech is what makes this country unique and that the best rebuttal to bad ideas is open debate. I love to hear from all sides and then try to find a common goal or area of agreement.

    3) Integrity - I am keenly aware of corporate, political, and pharmaceutical influence in healthcare. In 2022, after 20 years, I dropped my membership with the American Academy of Pediatrics because it was obvious that they had become a political organization. They stifled debate about the impact of gender-affirming care on children, they pushed false information about the benefits of the covid vaccine for children, and they changed their recommendations on school reopening when President Trump said he wanted schools open.
