Peter Boghossian’s unique background as a philosopher, educator, and public intellectual positions him as a candidate who could bring much-needed intellectual rigor and critical thinking to the role of Secretary of Education. His commitment to promoting intellectual diversity, challenging ideologies, and fostering practical skills in students could help modernize the U.S. education system, making it more responsive to the needs of students and society at large. His willingness to engage with difficult ideas and champion reforms would make him an effective, transformative leader in the Department of Education
Dr. Boghossian would be the ideal candidate for this role. He knows the right amount of cutting required, but also the necessary things that need to be maintained in order for our education system to start working again.
Dr. Boghossian also is one of the original discoverers of “street epistemology” which is a method of conversation based on the Socratic method with the focus on asking questions and understanding if a belief has been logically thought through. This form of intellectual curiosity and questioning should be a required skill for all students k-12. It has drastically improved my conversations and ability to determine what is true within life and education. Hiring Dr. Boghossian would be the best decision this administration could make.
I strongly oppose this nomination. Peter Boghossian has no qualifications for this job as he has never held anything other than a teaching position and has no experience in running any kind of agency much less a major agency of the US government. Furthermore, there is a strong evidence he is under the influence of the Hungarian government as he serves as a fellow in multiple institutions funded by that same government. there is also substantial evidence that he is less than forthcoming about his background, raising questions that would ultimately come up in any kind of background investigation. He also has close associations with individuals and organizations that reputable agencies have labeled as extreme/hate organizations. Surely there are multitudes of other people far more qualified, and with a more reputable background.
Peter is the founder of National Progress Alliance, a non-profit whose goal is to defend free expression. His extensive background as an educator informs his content, which has refined his thoughts about education reform over time. He is known for his “spectrum street epistemology” videos, where the Socratic method is used to help people think through their understandings and beliefs on a certain topic. Hiring Dr. Boghossian would be a huge asset to the Trump administration.
I’m a former student of Peter’s from his days as a professor. When he taught, he was very big on students learning HOW to think (critically, using data, logic, and an open mind), not WHAT to think. When it comes to higher education, he’s someone which holds intellectual inquiry, academic honesty, and open debate of ideas in the highest regard.
I think he would fight against corruption in our research and peer-review processes and be a champion for students ability to get a quality education from both K-12 and college which will impart them with both career related and general intellectual skills that will serve them the rest of their lives. Peter being a highly logical person, I would expect he’d use a data driven approach to help students prepare for the jobs of the future whether they be in the Trades, STEM, as entrepreneurs, or otherwise. Overall, I think Peter would help students in our country:
Be better equipped with relevant skills
Be better able to think critically
Have better prospects for their future
Graduate with lower debt compared to earning potential than we see today.
Have the support they need to find success despite any personal or regional disparities in resources and conditions.
He would be an excellent choice for any policy shaping position when it comes to education in our country, would work fiercely on behalf of the next generations, and is someone who would not compromise their mission of improving education due to ideological beliefs or money considerations.
People can read about why he left his position at Portland State University, and some of the problems in our higher education system here:
Peter is one of the few people I would trust to create a more neutral learning environment for our most precious resource. His mastery of the Socratic method is what our youth need to learn how to think rather than what to think. He has so much experience teaching others to use this method effectively I think he would have a positive impact on achieving better results in American education.
Peter Boghossian, along with James Lindsey and Helen Pluckrose, through their Grievance Studies Affair, illuminated the intellectual rot that has claimed so many of our esteemed institutions. As a former professor, he knows first hand what the “long march through the institutions” has resulted in: the “woke” intellectual capture of the social sciences in particular, worming its way into the hard sciences, particularly medicine. There is now a ratio of 133 Democrat to 0 Republican faculty in social science departments of elite universities.
Peter has helped to open dialogues amongst those with disparate views in colleges and other environments with his Spectrum Street Epistemology series, something which is desperately needed in these fractured times. I believe he is the ideal choice for this position if we are to reclaim our once renowned universities.
