Seeking an Opportunity to Participate in Implementing the Goals of the Whole-of-Government Task Force to Make America Healthy Again
Applicant: Richard Margolis MD
I am seeking the once in my lifetime opportunity to serve my country to help restore American vitality, longevity, security and prosperity by making America healthy again. I would like to start by first telling you something about my own health journey, then share with you some ways, from day one, I may help to support the Whole-of-Government Task Force in its emergency mission.
I am a physician, a Board-Certified Child & Adolescent and General Psychiatrist, and Forensic Psychiatrist with a long career of both public and private service and a long-standing passion for lifestyle medicine. My personal journey in lifestyle medicine began when I changed my own health through diet, exercise and mindfulness 25 years ago. In the process I lost 40 pounds and helped my wife to lose 75 pounds through avoiding ultra-processed, highly hedonic food-like substances, and replacing our old menu with a new menu of high-satiety, nutrient-dense food. As a lifestyle medicine advocate, I shared my knowledge with others and gave many presentations on “Food As Medicine”. My wife and I shared what we learned with couples, partners, families and their children to show how they can support each other for a healthier lifestyle.
I am a dedicated advocate for reversing the chronic disease epidemic by reforming our healthcare system through lifestyle medicine, removing environmental toxins, implementing true informed consent that includes patient-centered education with metrics, unbiased nutritional education, and changing healthcare financial incentives.
I am seeking the once in my lifetime opportunity to help support the Whole-of-Government Task Force with its Vision for Health and to implement the Emergency Mission of Ending America’s Chronic Disease Epidemic. The Task Force will include some of the best and the brightest thought leaders in reversal and prevention of chronic disease through lifestyle medicine, functional medicine, epidemiology and healthcare economic reform.
Please consider my thoughts on how I may help the Whole-of-Government Task Force on priorities to:
- Prioritize federal funding of independent research into the root causes of the chronic disease epidemic and the health effects of exposure to ultra-processed, highly hedonic food, environmental toxins, pesticides, forever-chemicals and microplastics. The goal is to increase scientific knowledge through peer-reviewed, published research to be generally accepted in the scientific community to meet the Daubert standard for reliability and relevance for expert witness testimony.
- Support the banning of pharmaceutical advertising by quickly issuing a report that investigates the effects of pharmaceutical Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Advertising on the doctor-patient relationship and healthcare costs.
- Develop a plan for Public Service Announcements (like the anti-smoking campaign), spokespeople and influencers to educate the public about the risks of ultra-processed foods, additives, and pesticides and benefits about the prevention and reversal of chronic disease.
- Develop a plan for Public Service Announcements, spokespeople and influencers to educate the public about the benefits of ending corporate corruption, prohibiting conflicts of interest, publishing trial data, removing liability shields, offering health savings accounts, and banning pharmaceutical advertising.
- Ending the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans Committee due to 95% of the committee members had conflicts of interest and appointing a new committee, without conflicts of interest, to develop new dietary guidelines focusing on the health effects of ultra-processed, highly hedonic food, food additives and environmental pesticides.
- Promote an improved standard of care for the informed consent process to include patient-centered education using instructional videos to inform patients about the root causes of their condition, lifestyle changes to improve their condition, and the potential benefits and side effects of treatment and alternatives.
- Promote an improved standard of care for the informed consent process to inform the patient of potential benefit vs. potential harm of treatment with the use of metrics such as Numbers Needed to Treat and Numbers Needed to Harm.
- Examine current healthcare provider financial incentives and consider financial incentives for prevention and reversal of disease rather than treatment.
- Investigate reducing healthcare insurance costs by changing financial incentives for insurers and by offering financial incentives to policy holders to make lifestyle changes to meet certain metrics and parameters.
- Require teaching about healthy eating, the risks of ultra-processed, highly hedonic foods, additives, and pesticides in food, and prevention and reversal of chronic disease, in school curricula at all levels of education (from primary and secondary schools, colleges, universities, graduate schools).
- Require all healthcare training programs, including medical schools, and healthcare continuing education, to provide training on the root causes of the chronic disease epidemic, and the health effects of exposure to ultra-processed, highly hedonic food, environmental toxins, pesticides, forever-chemicals and microplastics.
- Require all prescribing healthcare practitioners to complete an educational course in their training programs, for license application and license maintenance about how to de-prescribe, that is how to safely and successfully taper patients off unneeded medications.
- End corporate capture by proposing a review and vetting process to prohibit conflicts of interest by regulators of medical research, especially safety testing, and to identify and remove all corporate influence of federal agency employees and contractors with consequences for violations.
- Identify scientists who are trained and qualified to analyze trial data and set up a program to train other scientists to analyze trial data.
My goal is to utilize my knowledge of medicine and the healthcare system, my expertise in mental health and substance use prevention and treatment, the communication and collaboration skills that I have learned as a psychiatrist, and my passion for lifestyle medicine and medical freedom to serve in the new administration to Make America Healthy Again.
Please see below a description of my participation in and support of the RFK Jr. Presidential Campaign
During Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Presidential Campaign, I attended his October 9th event in Philadelphia. At the event I met Florida State Lead Roger Hayes, shared that I was moving to Florida, and became the Palm Beach County Volunteer Coordinator. In this capacity I organized and attended many events, including events at the MLK Day Parade, Hispanic Festival (I speak Spanish) and St. Patrick’s Day Parade. I actively participated in weekly Florida and Southeast Regional Zoom organizational meetings with leadership and volunteers.
I became involved with and helped organize table fundraising events in Palm Beach, Broward, Dade and other counties. I am well-versed not only in healthcare issues but also in many other campaign issues and policies including First Amendment and Free Speech; inflation, the National Debt and the economy; immigration reform, and ending the forever wars.
I attended many campaign fundraising events including the Centners’ event in Miami, Dr. Mercola’s event in Cape Coral, Latino Wall Street in Miami (as a table fundraiser), and The Night of Comedy in Nashville. Most recently, I attended the Rescue the Republic in Washington DC and its fundraising event. I have participated in Del Bigtree’s Health Think Tank where I presented my article https://www.people4kennedy.com/profiles-in-courage-and-a-torch-passed-jfk-rfk-rfk-jr/ and a PowerPoint about President Biden’s Health Assessment by his personal White House Physician and his subsequent announcement to end his campaign and endorse Kamala Harris.
Since the RFK Jr. campaign was suspended, I have been hosting a Breakout Room in the People for Kennedy (United for Good) Thursday Zoom weekly meetings for campaign supporters to discuss and share their feelings about the end of the campaign, RFK Jr.’s alliance with President Trump, and how to handle conversations with friends and family members who try to dissuade or shame them into voting for Kamala Harris.
I am a member of Children’s Health Defense, attended their 2nd Annual Conference in Savannah, Georgia, and attended the Brownstone Institute’s Monthly Supper Club in Philadelphia
