Agency or agencies for which nominator feels nominee is best suited:
Organization name(s) and position(s) for which nominator feels nominee is best suited:
Director of the Bureau of Land Management Wild Horse & Burro Program
Policies which the nominator knows the nominee supports or in which they have expertise:
Having a background and experience in ranching, science, forestry (logging), wildfire ecology and unparalleled experience with managing free-roaming wild horses, allowed me to connect the dots that show superior policies for natural resource management, especially forest and wildlife management paradigm. My policy suggestions have been taken to action-level, and have since been tested by a 38,000 acre wind-driven wildfire that was successfully stopped before it destroyed the Cascade Siskiyou National Monument on the OR-CA border.
Managing remaining (59,000 per BLM census) wild horses using a proven-piloted program that is cost-effective (save taxpayers over $500-million annually), reducing conflicts with ranching and other public lands stakeholders, and reduces catastrophic wildfires greatly benefits all stakeholders, including taxpayers who always end-up footing the bills for government mismanagement.
Wild horses pose a challenge to federal and state agencies, who spend extraordinary amounts of public funding in their management both on- and off-range. Some populations exist where they are not wanted, and agencies are highly motivated to remove them.
The 501-c-3 nonprofit Wild Horse Fire Brigade already has a source population that could serve as individuals for a government or additional private land pilot studies. Private forestry interests might benefit from hosting horses on their lands for wildfire fuel mitigation. The horses may come at minimal cost, reduce other wildfire mitigation costs, lower fuel loads, and ultimately restore ecosystem function to the landscape. It would seem ultimately fitting if the advocacy for wildlife, horses and forest production industry collaborated with Wild Horse Fire Brigade to lead the way in what could ultimately become one of the most significant solutions to wildfire this century, while at the same time restoring wildlife and ecosystem function to North American landscapes as a conservation co-benefit.
No other agency or nonprofit group has the level of in-depth, comprehensive multi-dimensional hands-on experience with wild horses and their behavioral ecology & ethology in a wilderness ecosystem as the all-volunteer nonprofit Wild Horse Fire Brigade.

Currently serving as the Executive Director and Founder of the all-volunteer nonprofit Wild Horse Fire Brigade, which is the only nonprofit of its kind that has a scalable, proven plan to manage Americas wild horses in a manner that employs a Nature-Based Solution that is humane, cost-effective, and ends the range war between the livestock producers (as well as gas, oil and mineral extractors) and wild horses on public lands. The plan has the support of ELKO COUNTY COMMISSIONERS in NEVADA (by Letter) and many others. ABC NEWS in RENO (https://www.kolotv.com/video/2024/06/13/could-wild-horses-help-prevent-wildfires-one-non-profit-is-making-it-happen/) ran a spot on the Support from counties in Nevada, where the BLM is currently mismanaging 2/3rds of the entire U.S. population of wild horses of 59,000 horses, originally protected by Richard Nixon in 1971 via the Free Roaming Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act.
