I nominate Victor Davis Hanson

I have no idea if he’d be interested, or be considered qualified, but I like what he has said as far as needing Civics in the classroom. Its a downright shame that a new citizen has to recite the Pledge of Allegiance while a child born and raised in America may never have the opportunity to learn the Pledge. I would be embarassed to know I dont know it, and upset that my Government is why I dont. A student should know the backstory of the Star-Spangled Banner and what the importance of whether that flag still stands truly is. An American school should teach everything needed to give a student and citizen pride in their country, and meaning to their citizenship, which unites us all as Americans above and before any personal labels we may apply to ourselves that separate us from the whole.

I have been amazed by school districts that have no money for textbooks so students can learn American History, English Grammar, Maths and Sciences, but have plenty of money for books to learn about non-mainstream lifestyles and other special interest topics that will not prepare more than a fraction of the population for their future. We need to throw away ‘the pass a test for money for the school’ model that has left so many without so much as a signature to take out into the world. Practical classes again that prepare a student for life. Penmanship, Family Living, Home Economics - practical skills like balancing a checkbook and applying for a job, making an appearance in Court, mending a dress and preparing a meal. They may not all go to college, but we all want children to be independent Americans that are self-sufficient and armed with the tools necessary to go forth and live a fulfilling life regardless of their level of scholastic achievement.

Brayden jacobs hes young but hes one of the most brilent minds we have

At the risk of sounding immodest, I’d like to nominate myself for a position in Trump’s Education Department.

My name is Michelle Luttman, and I am a teacher so I would like to share why we have a literacy crisis in the U.S. The journalistic expose, Sold a Story: How Teaching Kids to Read Went So Wrong, explains how College of Education professors have been training teachers the WRONG WAY for decades. This 6-episode 2022 podcast (link below) exposes how Phonics was supplanted by an erroneous approach to literacy called the “Whole Language Approach” and later “Balanced Literacy” (that sprinkles in phonics). Publishers like Fountas & Pinnell are also deeply complicit.

The Whole Language Approach teaches a 3-cue method that essentially teaches kids to memorize sight words and guess what a word from its first letter, context, and pictures. During the pandemic, horrified parents discovered from watching their children’s lessons online that they were not sounding out words but instead guessing and memorizing. That approach produces remarkable results in Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grades when most reading material is basic and illustrated. However, student scores start tanking dramatically in later grades when they encounter much more difficult words in history and science that cannot be easily memorized or deduced from context or pictures.

There are 220 words in the Dolch List of Sight Words. However, only 22 of them should be memorized because the rest of these words can be decoded using phonics. Therefore, Phonological Awareness, Phonemic Awareness, and Systematic Phonics should be taught in an intensive, sequential fashion from Kindergarten to 2nd grade.

As a result in part of this podcast’s revelations, many states have adopted the Science of Reading Approach, which is supported by robust research in neuroscience. The phonics portion (teaching children how to decode) is represented by the first 3 stages: Phonology (sounds), Orthography (spelling) & Morphology (word parts). After students learn how to decode, their reading comprehension is tackled in the following 5 stages: Syntax, Semantics, Pragmatics & Discourse. That entails teaching Greek & Latin Roots to aid in vocabulary acquisition among other strategies.

I’m very passionate about all schools adopting a curriculum teaching Systematic Phonics with fidelity. Orton-Gillingham is an excellent program that is highly effective for students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia as well as ESL students. In fact, that should be the go-to option for all students given the dramatic rise in IEPs and 504s in this country. Another great curriculum is Saxon Phonics (the company has been bought out so I don’t know if that has impacted the quality of its offerings). Parents can also purchase “Hooked on Phonics” because its lively songs appeal to children who love music.

Lastly, we need to share this information with everyone we know. What most people don’t know is that the top 2 reasons for juvenile delinquency and incarceration are drug addiction and literacy. Hence, by advocating a return to Systematic Phonics, we can eliminate at least one of those risk factors.

Incidentally, from the 1800s to the 1930s, the ubiquitous textbook in the United States was the McGuffey Reader which taught Phonics! That’s how Americans in one-room schoolhouses across the country successfully learned how to read quite difficult text (check out the exams and reading texts from that time period). Let’s return to the US to its position of primacy in education worldwide again!

My California Adult Living Skills class of special needs students is writing a book on American history and sent a special Preamble video question to all the presidential candidates on 10/10/2024 via social media and emails. Sadly, only the Socialist party headquarters contacted us to resend it to another email, but to date, even they gave no reply. Please contact me before the election. We are practicing several new approaches to mental/physical/emotional health and have an abundance of experiences to share. I am a Marine mom and in the last three months, I just reversed major health conditions through intermittent fasting using a research based system specifically designed for women who fast and avoided the pharmaceutical and early death cycle. Thank you for your offer here to invite us to share in your heroic efforts to advocate for change in all sectors and strengthen the core foundation of America :us:by relying on the most current and past legacies of the American people to forge an incredible alliance and change the trajectory of human history.

Dr. Yusuf Saleeby MD CTP am nominating for Medical Education (primary and secondary - residence or apprentice) Established the Priority Health Academy in 2026 for info see www.Priority-Health.us and has trained many students and APPs (NP/PA) in reformed Functional and holistic medicine.

I’d love to help put a team together to fix school health.

To drastically simplify what’s taken place the last 15 years – Michelle Obama put the Clintons in charge of Let’s Move’s role in schools. They then turned around and gave food companies everything they wanted. As of today, food companies are now the nation’s #1 suppliers of health education. According to their own numbers, they’ve now reached nearly 50 million students (About - Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation)

Nobody is even aware this has taken place, let alone trying to fix it.

I nominate Sherrie Conley from Oklahoma!

She is a former teacher at multiple schools (both public and private), she cares about the children and keeping them safe, she is a Christian and stands up for her values, and she loves the U.S.

Michelle, it looks like you have a passion for and some good first hand knowledge of the subject. I also heard that illiteracy was a factor in committing crimes. Good luck!
