Perhaps consider resubmitting it?
That’s what I had to do–There had been a glitch due to the browser I used. I needed to use Chrome instead of Firefox, and add a cellphone number instead of a landline. Let’s hope it shows up tomorrow.
Education
Overemphasis on Standardized Testing
Standardized testing often prioritizes rote learning and memorization over critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. This narrow focus can inhibit children’s broader intellectual and emotional growth and their ability to adapt to real-world challenges.
Insufficient Emphasis on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)
Emotional intelligence, empathy, and interpersonal skills are essential capabilities, but traditional curricula often overlook social-emotional learning. Without these skills, children may struggle to navigate relationships, manage emotions, and develop resilience.
Inflexible Curriculum and Teaching Methods
Conventional curricula and rigid teaching styles can hinder children’s individual learning paths, limiting the development of critical thinking, creativity, and practical life skills. A more flexible, child-centered approach is essential to nurturing diverse capabilities.
Limited Focus on Real-World Skills and Practical Learning
Schools often emphasize academic knowledge over practical skills like financial literacy, digital literacy, critical thinking, and teamwork, which are essential for life outside of the classroom. Children may leave school without the tools they need to thrive in modern society.
Inequality in Early Childhood Education
Early childhood is crucial for capability development, yet access to high-quality early education remains uneven. Children who miss out on enriching early experiences are often at a disadvantage in later schooling and capability-building.
Digital Divide and Technology Gaps
While digital literacy is an essential capability, the digital divide means many children lack access to technology, internet connectivity, and digital education resources. This gap limits their exposure to valuable tools and experiences that support capability growth.

I know submissions are paused, but would like to throw my hat into the arena as well. I am a biologist and chemist with a bachelor’s in biology and a masters in education. I have worked in every grade level from pre-k to college as a paraeducator, student support specialist, and substitute teacher. My focus area is 6-12 biology and I current work at a local community college as a lab technician where I work directly with professors and students.
I would focus on bring quality education back to the schools, rebuilding the foundations of math and reading so that students can even comprehend their lessons beyond 5th grade. Having personally worked in the school, I know what challenges our students are facing and have seen the kind of things being taught by politically focused educators. Politics needs to take a back seat and real education needs to return.
Mike Rowe, he understands the need for not only higher education but also for tradesmen. Mike could implement programs to incentivize trade schools. Improve and certify them.
Abolish the department of education. Ban woke and grooming teachers.
The Department of Education should be eliminated. It is nothing but a political arm of HHS. Education should be given back to the States because I don’t see the D of E doing anything to enhance education. They are about passing tests more than they are about teaching. Our international standards have dropped like a rock since the department was created.
Nominate Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters for Vision of Education
A change in public education could be coming from the top-down, and Oklahoma’s top educator said his office is getting ready. On Monday, Walters announced the “Trump Education Advisory Committee,” which would oversee federal public education policy changes that are anticipated after Trump takes office. “It is making sure our kids are ready for the future. That’s jobs. That’s a high quality of life,” Walters said. “What we’re going to be doing is making sure that Oklahoma is poised to be the best state and first state in the country to implement President Trump’s agenda.”
Walters’ announcement comes after the president-elect proposed eliminating the U.S. Department of Education.
Strength in the field
For far too long trade workers have been cast aside by the elites in Washington D.C. We have a growing problem in this country that will leave us behind if we do not address it now. Moving forward I purpose a series of reforms that would provide shop classes at the high school level that would work alongside trade schools in the area. Allow for those classes to count towards certifications and provide connections to employers in the field.
This also gives kids who never thought of doing trades who struggle in school a path forward instead of falling into despair. Welding, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and automotive. Those classes also give students an opportunity to use different skills they might otherwise miss out on.
Let’s not forget Trade schools for adults. These schools are often neglected and working with aging equipment. I propose we help these schools bring in up to date technology and equipment. We waste so much money on gender studies and other degrees that do little except drive up debt for Americans. Why not push that into an area that would help them.
I would love to be considered for an appointment to any federally appointed position within ED to help decentralize the Department of Education. I love education in its rawest forms, from Socratic ideals to application. I have not always loved my path within education, which is why I I would love to be a part of dismantling the bureaucracy— as America was a successful pioneer in education before ED and ED policies. I believe in giving more local control and more power to innovate in states, districts, and most importantly— power to parents.
One thing I would like to see is that an addition to the curriculum regarding how to manage internet and technological interactions, and to do it early on like grade 5-ish, through to graduation.
With how crippling media influences and addiction can have on our growing generation, it has to be vital that they are taught how it works, and how to manage and perceive the information that’s presented on the screens. As someone that fell into it at 12 years old, and stayed on for nearly decade things have changed a LOT.
I’ve been part of, moderated, and created multiple communities of various platforms and interests. While they all may differ in every way, there’s a lot to be learned in how online groups interact, and what I’ve observed across all of them in how they behave and interact is that even with polar opposite demographics and subjects, there’s a specific type of psychology and social dynamic within them that they all share in common.
This can be learned and then taught, in a course of online behaviour and perception that should most definitely be part of the curriculum for our upcoming generation.
Here’s just a non-exhaustive list of subjects within that can be explored.
- Social dynamics of interaction between known and unknown persons, and how they differ from reality.
- Subcultures of online communities and how they ‘self moderate’ and ‘filter’ themselves to be larger groups of specific beliefs and behaviours, and how those that differ are left out or limit participation.
- Algorithmic bias and how they can be intentionally and unintentionally manipulated to portray a bias and view of the world that may differ from reality.
- Natural bias and perception differences of those that are frequent internet users and those that are not, and that users of a given forum do not proportionately reflect the real world at large.
- Content consumption addiction, in various forms with a psychological understanding.
- Porn addiction and long-term effects of frequent use.
- Porn creation and social consequences as an adult.
- Gaming addiction and how they hijack legitimate productivity and real-world success
- AI use, observation, ethics and to always remain skeptical of any content displayed on screen.
- A consistent message to focus on reality, not what’s on screen. It’s a specific perspective on life that I would like to see addressed.
- Security and privacy, with what content to to put on the devices, and what has access to that content with an understanding that they can be easily sold, redistributed and observed by other parties with or without your consent. Even in private messaging, just have personal conversations face-face.
- Critical thinking and research ability, how to have constructive discourse online.
- How and what type of content you consume can affect your mental health, and how you can intentionally tune your feeds and algorithm to benefit you.
That’s just what I can think off the top of my head, I’m sure there’s more and a lot of these subjects can take quite a bit of time to cover, but definitely needs to be reviewed with psychologists and discussed with those that grew up in the online generation, and those that legitimately understand online dynamics.
TLDR; teach kids to be skeptical of screens and online interactions, focus on reality.
Let me know what you think.

Personally, I would love to see more wellness of mind, body, and spirit brought to both the educators & administrators, as well as to the students. PHYSICAL HEALTH needs to be brought back to a higher priority and standard in American school systems. My son is doing PhysEd online! How is that physical? They need sunshine, fresh air, and increased heart rates, sweat for detoxing the body. MENTAL HEALTH in our youth has shockingly escalated since lockdowns. Mindfulness programs, like yoga, tai chi, Access Bars, meditation, prayer (please honor every family’s religious choice) and/or a moment of silence, will exponentialize the student’s focus, confidence, kindness, and cognitive function while lowering restlessness, anxiety, and depression. These also assist the children to a greater Spiritual connection to their personal Divine guidance. I am currently a nominee for the Dept of Health because I would like to bring more Mindfulness and Alternative Healing techniques to our Healthcare system. Please consider voting for me - Thank you! I nominate Melissa M Porcaro, OTR/SIPT for working to help change the education system. She is a Sensory Integration and Praxis Test Certified Occupational Therapist for over 38 years with 18 years of private practice experience. She has worked in the school systems and has homeschooled her three children which by the grace of God has produced three successful adult children. She has a level one certification in Tech and Media Health with a Center of Excellence certification from Seattle Children’s Hospital for assisting in the diagnosis of Autism.
She believes in competition and free market of ideas as well as recognizing the differences in learning styles and not making every child fit in a box or pursue the path of secondary education. Classes in the basics should be returned to the education system as well as pencil and paper multisensory learning as her two (of three) children have been exposed to as a West Point Military Academy graduate and current cadet.
Have you ever heard of photographic early childhood memory training, and spiritual enlightenment education programs?
Also, do you have any clue of the public self-healthcare education systems?
God is sending revolutionary education systems to humanity.
God bless humanity and you.
I do not have information on “photographic early childhood memory training, and spiritual enlightenment education programs”.
You asked if I had “any clue of the public self-healthcare education systems?” Not sure what you mean by a “clue”. I have experience with my own three adult successful children through homeschooling, oversees school, private education and public education. I have worked in the school system as a therapist and have worked with the school system through my 18 years in private practice contracting within the Sped Dept and in Behavioral Programs.
I feel I am qualified to be part of this team based on my years of experience and my involvement with hands on assistance in a variety of settings. In addition, I believe that a return to basic nutrition, education and a learning environment that supports neurological development is essential. I believe in a strong parental involvement with education and training putting the parents back in the drivers seat responsible for growing up children early on ready for learning when they enter school. This, of course can be accomplished in a variety of ways.
Thank you for reaching out.
